Video iPod has solutions for busy viewers

Boston Herald
iPodTinkering with an enormously popular, dominant consumer product is a bold move. So when Apple added video to the top models of its iPod, the stakes were high indeed -- especially since the company is phasing out non-video iPods with big hard drives.

Replace Battery, Not iPod

New York Times
iPodsApple's wildly popular iPod has a well-known Achilles' heel: over time, its rechargeable battery tends to lose its capacity to hold a charge. Apple's begrudging solution has been a cumbersome mail-in program that replaces the entire iPod with a reconditioned one for $60.

This fall, Sonnet Technologies released a line of high-capacity 3.2-volt batteries for all iPods except the new ultra-small iPod Shuffle and Nano. Sonnet executives say their products will play up to 78 percent longer than the original iPod batteries.

The Sonnet kits, which cost $30 to $40 depending on the iPod model, include tools to open the iPod's case and remove the original battery.

Will Apple's iPod Be Eye for Porn?

Mac News

Almost all DVD movies are sold with CSS encryption, which must be broken before you transform the DVD’s contents into an iPod-ready format. It is generally accepted that you may convert a DVD provided that it is “yours” -- which is the case if you’ve created the content yourself, for example.
