I've said it before and will say it again -- the iPod is a life-changing device...

I just received an iPod photo, and if I loved my iPod before, I really love it now. The new iPod photo stores not only your songs, but also your digital pictures.

The 2-inch color display is the best little color display I've seen, and I've heard many remarks about its clarity and rich, saturated images. Photos look amazing, and iPod photo stores and displays album art for songs which have cover art available.

Apple is releasing iPod Socks in December. If you don't want to spend $29 for "footwear" for your iPod, you can get a felt iPod cozy instead for $20. Or, make your own iPod "superCase" for free...

One more: plan on going swimming with your iPod mini? Neither are we, but just in case, you can get waterproof housing for it.

Unlike earlier iPods, this new model has a vivid color screen and can store and display up to 25,000 photos. It retains the usual music storage and playback functions as well. Jobs was adamant during his address on Tuesday that video -- the technology that so many rumors swirled around -- was not the right direction for the iPod. One reason Jobs brought up as an upside for turning to photos was that "there are no copyright issues, you already own them." The devices that do support video are larger allowing for a screen big enough to view a movie, which makes them less mobile.

"There will always be those who think that gadgets like the iPod should have Swiss-army-knife functionality, but I agree with Steve Jobs, it is not the right form factor for video," said Tim Deal, Technology Business Research analyst.
