This seems like a weird iPod accessory to me: "Griffin Technology Inc. on Monday unveiled the iBeam, a new flashlight and laser pointer combination designed to work as a snap-on package for iPods and iPod minis. The flashlight and laser pointer are two separate devices that feature protective caps and can be clipped on to a keychain when not in use."

If, like me, you travel everywhere with your iPod, you're painfully aware of the need to carry some kind of charger... For the last few days, I've been trying out an add-on for the iPod that uses four double-A batteries to recharge the music player. It's the Backup Battery for iPod from Belkin, and sells for about $60.

Ask any iPod user what they like the most about their device, and most will probably mention the scrollwheel. Here’s the story behind the company that makes it (hint: it’s not Apple).

Three iPod Mac utilities come in the iPod ActionPak:

Bose has introduced the SoundDock digital music system designed for Apple's iPod and iPod mini. The new speaker system lets iPod owners access, control and listen to their stored music. An included infrared remote can control iPod from across the room. The SoundDock is expected to sell for $300.

I've had it less than a week, but already Apple's iPod version 4 has become an umbilical attachment -- like a wallet, cell phone, and keys. This is unusual, because I've owned several CD Walkmans, but rarely carried them around. Too big and too much hassle.
But the iPod is a different animal. Self-contained, needing no disc wallet. A huge storage capacity. Excellent sound. Small size. 12-hour battery life between charges. Mac or PC compatible. Instant access to any song. The ability to import music from CDs and various other formats. It can even function as a hard drive, for storage of graphics or other digital files. Plus, the new models were just introduced at $100 less than the previous ones. This is an outstanding device, with great flexibility that even audio professionals will appreciate.

The advent of the iPod and similar storage-rich MP3 players is a boon for convenience and portability. But these devices, which are passed around, shared and showcased among friends and co-workers, make exposure of one's previously private tastes an unintended side effect.
Take an iPod for a jaunt in your car and a passenger's light spin of the selector wheel could land on something like, say, some Wilson Phillips. Or Juice Newton. Yanni, perhaps. Or the theme to "The Golden Girls."

Do you have battery problems with your first-generation iPod? If so, this might be of interest to you:
Newer Technology and Other World Computing today introduced an ultra-high-capacity replacement battery constructed with the same technology used by Apple to make the original iPod batteries. The NewerTech battery also comes with two nonscratching installation tools and a detailed instruction manual to guide users smoothly through the installation process.
NewerTech says its Lithium-Polymer (Li-Polymer) replacement battery is the highest capacity iPod battery on the market and provides 70 percent more capacity than standard Apple stock batteries. It sells for US$39.95.
In iTunes, you don't have to listen to just a single artist at a time. You probably already know that clicking the Browse button in the top right part of iTunes will let you browse your artists: selecting an artist will show that artist's songs in your Library.
But you can listen to more than one artist's songs at a time using multiple selections: Say you wanted to listen to just The Hives, The Jam and The Libertines right now. Rather than create a new playlist and add those artists' songs to it, just command-click (or control-click on Windows) to select each artist you want from the Artist pane. You'll see all songs by those artists in your iTunes window, ready to play.
(Of course, the same goes for the Genre and Album panes.)
Someone has set up a petition to convince Apple to add gapless playback to the iPod. If that's something you're interested in, perhaps you'd like to add your name to the online petition. Or maybe just wait for Apple to add it when they're good and ready...

Newly arrived Duke University freshmen got something considerably snazzier than the usual Blue Devils T-shirts and ball caps: Their goodie bags included a free iPod digital music player engraved with the school's crest and the words "Class of 2008."
